Frequently Asked Question
Why Are My Emails Delayed?
If you notice that some emails take a few minutes longer than usual to arrive, this is usually caused by a feature called greylisting and is completely normal.
What Is Greylisting?
When SpamExperts receives an email from a sender it hasn't seen before, it temporarily asks the sender's server to "try again in a few minutes". This is called greylisting.
- Legitimate email servers will retry automatically and the email is delivered — usually within 5 to 15 minutes
- Spam servers typically don't retry, so the spam never arrives
When Does This Happen?
Greylisting only causes a delay the first time a new sender emails you. After that, their server is remembered and future emails from the same sender arrive immediately.
Is There Something Wrong?
A short delay (5–15 minutes) for a first-time sender is completely normal and is an important part of spam protection.
If emails are delayed by hours or more, this may indicate a different issue (e.g., the destination mail server is temporarily unavailable). In that case, please raise a support ticket and we'll investigate.
